TERM ONE
Week 1 & 2
Topic: Classifying of Animals
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to classify animals into three groups – insects, birds, and mammals.
Lesson: 2 Lessons
Materials: Cut-out pictures of animals such as insects, birds, and mammals.
Activities: The teacher explains the classification of animals by mentioning their characteristics such as four legs, six legs, eight legs, feathers, etc. Pupils will learn how to categorize animals based on these traits.
Evaluation: Evaluation must be done on the nature and characteristics of all animals mentioned. Ask pupils to recall specific characteristics of each animal group.
Week 3 & 4
Topic: Classify Leaves by Their Shapes (Leaf Album)
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to classify leaves by their shapes and create a leaf album.
Lesson: 2 Lessons
Materials: Leaves of different shapes from the school garden.
Activities: The teacher directs the collection of leaves by the pupils around the school environment. Pupils will gather leaves of various shapes and sizes, then categorize them. The teacher will explain the differences in the leaves and the process of classification based on shape.
Evaluation: Relevant questions are asked on the lesson taught, such as, "What shapes can you see in the leaves?" and "Can you classify the leaves based on their shapes?"
Week 5 & 6
Topic: Classification of Objects into Two (Man-Made and Natural)
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to classify an object according to whether it is man-made or natural.
Lesson: 2 Lessons
Materials: A collection of natural and man-made objects (e.g., sand, shoe, books, leaf, etc.).
Activities: Teacher and pupils should go together to pick leaves and collect various objects in and around the school. Pupils will be shown how to classify the collected objects into two categories: natural (e.g., leaves, stones) and man-made (e.g., shoes, books).
Evaluation: The teacher will ask questions based on the lesson taught to ensure pupils can differentiate between man-made and natural objects. Example questions include, "Which of these items are natural?" and "Which objects are man-made?"
