TERM ONE
Week 1 & 2
Topic: Review of Sound and Letters
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to match letters, fill in the missing letters, and copy correctly during dictation.
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Charts on the alphabet, movable letters, and flashcards on the alphabet.
Activities: The teacher will guide pupils through the usual activities of teaching letters as done in Nursery One, reinforcing letter recognition and sound matching.
Evaluation: Practical evaluation of students' ability to match letters and copy them during dictation.
Week 3
Topic: Review of Two-Letter Phonetic Words and Sentences
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to read, fill in, match, and copy correctly during dictation.
Lesson: 4 Lessons
Materials: Flashcards on two-letter words.
Activities: Engage students in activities such as dictation, matching two-letter words, and fill-in-the-blanks exercises.
Evaluation: Thorough class exercises and homework to assess their understanding of two-letter phonetic words.
Week 4 & 5
Topic: Building of Three-Letter Phonetic Words
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to build and read three-letter phonetic words using large movable alphabets and pink picture cards.
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Large movable alphabets and pink picture cards.
Activities: Extend the activities of building words to the whiteboard. Example words include:
Cu------p, ba--------t, ma------t, ca------t
Additionally, the teacher should conduct dictation of three-letter words.
Evaluation: Assess pupils through practical activities and dictation of three-letter phonetic words.
Week 6
Topic: Matching of Words to Words and Objects
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to match words with words and objects, as well as fill in the missing letters in words.
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Cut-out cards of words, movable alphabets, picture cards.
Activities: Engage pupils in activities such as:
1. Matching words with words, e.g., bat → pat, rod → cot.
2. Matching words with objects and filling in missing letters.
Example:

The picture stamp pad will be useful in these activities.
Evaluation: Class activities and homework for reinforcing the concepts of matching words and objects.
Week 7
Topic: Reading of Three-Letter Words and Phonetic Sentences
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to read three-letter words and articulate phonetic expressions fluently.
Lesson: 4 Lessons
Materials: Large movable alphabets, whiteboard.
Activities: The teacher will form simple comprehension passages using three-letter words and guide pupils in reading them. Emphasis should be placed on words that are easy to pronounce. Resources like *Queen Primer 1* are highly relevant for this lesson.
Evaluation: The teacher will supervise pupils as they read the comprehension passages in turns to ensure fluency and proper pronunciation.
