Week 1
Topic: Review of Two- and Three-Lettered Words, Read and Write Capital Letters
Objectives:
- Pupils should be able to pronounce and write two- and three-lettered words.
- Pupils should be able to write the letters of the alphabet in capital letters.
Lesson: 4 Lessons
Materials: Materials from previous lessons (large movable alphabets, flashcards, charts on the alphabet).
Activities: - The teacher will review the spelling process for two- and three-letter words using large movable alphabets.
- Pupils will practice writing capital letters and forming words.
Evaluation: - Ask pupils to write five examples each for two- and three-letter words.
- Evaluate their ability to write the letters of the alphabet correctly in capital form.
Week 2
Topic: Review the Phonogram “th”
Objectives:
- Pupils should be able to pronounce words containing the “th” phonogram (e.g., that, these).
Lesson: 4 Lessons
Materials: Synthetic phonic cubes, large movable alphabet, flashcards.
Activities: - The teacher will explain and review the phonogram “th”.
- Pupils will practice pronouncing words that contain “th”.
- Additional examples will be provided, such as “this,” “that,” and “there.”
Evaluation: - The teacher will assess pupils by asking them to pronounce words with the “th” sound.
- A quiz or oral assessment on “th” words can be conducted.
Week 3 & 4
Topic: Introduce Longer Phonetic Words with Large Movable Alphabets and Blue Picture Cards
Objectives:
- Pupils should be able to pronounce longer phonetic words such as “basket” and “crump.”
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Blue picture cards, large movable alphabet.
Activities: - The teacher will introduce a list of longer phonetic words.
- Pupils will practice building and reading these words with the large movable alphabets.
- Dictation will be done to reinforce the understanding of longer words.
Evaluation: - Evaluation will be done based on pupils' ability to build and recognize longer phonetic words.
- Matching words with pictures and completing word lists will be part of the evaluation process.
Week 5 & 6
Topic: Introduce Phonograms “oo”
Objectives:
- Pupils should be able to pronounce words that contain the “oo” phonogram, such as “hook.”
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Phonogram cards.
Activities: - The teacher will introduce and explain the “oo” phonogram using words like “hook,” “book,” “food,” “zoo,” etc.
- Pupils will practice pronunciation and spelling of these words.
- The teacher will use dictation and oral spelling exercises to reinforce the learning of these words.
- A comprehension passage will be created using the “oo” words to help pupils commit the words to memory. Example passage:
"The old fool sat by the cool pool in the hot noon. He dipped his foot into the cool pool. He looks into the book of the zoo with him."
Evaluation: - Evaluation will be based on how well the pupils recognize and pronounce the “oo” phonogram words.
- Dictation, spelling, and comprehension of the passage will be used for assessment.
Week 7 & 8
Topic: Introduce the Queen Primer 2
Objectives:
- Begin using comprehension passages from the Queen Primer 2 and other supplementary reading materials selected by the school.
- Pupils will answer questions and discuss the passages they read.
Materials: Queen Primer 2, supplementary reading textbooks.
Activities: - Teacher introduces reading comprehension from Queen Primer 2 and other selected textbooks.
- Pupils will read and answer questions related to the passages.
- The teacher will encourage students to identify key vocabulary and discuss the content of the readings.
Evaluation: - Evaluation will focus on how well pupils understand and answer questions about the reading passages.
- Class discussions and written responses will be assessed.
