ENGLISH LANGUAGE NURSERY ONE TERM 3
Week 1 & 2
Topic: Review the Twenty-Six Letters of the Alphabet
Note: Ensure that most pupils can sound, write, and identify all the letters of the alphabet before moving on. Do not discard the sounding, writing, and identification of these letters.
Lesson: Ongoing Review
Materials: Flashcards, Alphabet chart, Writing materials.
Activities: Practice with the alphabet through various activities to reinforce recognition, sounding, and writing of each letter.
Evaluation: Continually assess pupils' ability to sound, write, and identify the letters correctly during class activities.
Week 3 & 4
Topic: Introduce the Building of Two-Letter Phonetic Words
Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to combine letters to form simple two-letter phonetic words.
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Large movable alphabet, flashcards, alphabet rack.
Activities: Guide pupils through creating two-letter phonetic words such as b + a = ba, t + a = ta, s + a = sa, r + a = ra, and m + a = ma.
Evaluation: Ask pupils to sound out and spell the words formed. Evaluate through relevant questions to gauge understanding.
Week 5 & 6
Topic: Continue Building Two-Letter Phonetic Words
Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to confidently build and identify two-letter phonetic words.
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: As in Week 3 & 4.
Activities: Continue practicing the creation of two-letter phonetic words with various combinations of letters to reinforce the learning process.
Evaluation: The teacher will assess the pupils' ability to build words and recall them during class activities.
Week 7 & 8
Topic: Matching Words and Filling in Missing Letters
Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to match words with corresponding words and fill in the missing letters in incomplete words.
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Pupils’ notebooks, flashcards, and movable alphabet.
Activities: The teacher will guide pupils through fill-in activities, such as completing words like I - t = it, and matching pairs of words.
Evaluation: Pupils will be evaluated on their ability to match letters and words correctly.
Week 9 & 10
Topic: More Work on Picture Reading and Building Two-Letter Phonetic Sentences
Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to build simple two-letter phonetic sentences and answer simple oral questions based on the sentences.
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Picture books, flashcards.
Activities: Teacher-led exercises where pupils form sentences such as “It is a fox” and engage in sentence dictation. They will also answer basic oral questions based on the sentences they built.
Evaluation: Assess pupils’ ability to form and understand two-letter phonetic sentences.
Week 11 & 12
Topic: Revision, Termly Test, Examination, and Closing
Objectives: Review all topics covered in the term, assess pupils’ progress through a termly test and prepare for the closing of the term.
Lesson: 8 Lessons
Materials: Revision materials, test papers, and writing supplies.
Activities: Conduct a thorough revision of all lessons, administer a termly test, and wrap up the term’s learning.
