NURSERY PRACTICAL LIFE EXERCISES

TERM ONE

Week 1 & 2

Topic: Set Grand Rules, Walking Around the Class and Taking Excuses

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to walk around the class courteously and obey the class rules.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: The instructor

Activities: The teacher sets the grand rules for the term and practically demonstrates walking around the class and taking excuses before the pupils. This encourages polite behavior in the classroom.

Evaluation: Role play and practical questions to evaluate pupils’ understanding of the grand rules and how they take excuses.

Week 3 & 4

Topic: Weeding of Flower Beds

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to differentiate between flowers and weeds on the flower beds and neatly weed the flowers.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Flower beds in school

Activities: The teacher takes the pupils to the flower beds beside the class to carry out weeding exercises. Pupils will learn the difference between flowers and weeds and how to maintain the flower beds.

Evaluation: Ask questions about flowers and weeds growing around school and homes to evaluate understanding.

Week 5 & 6

Topic: Saying Thank You

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to say "thank you" when necessary.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: The instructor

Activities: The teacher engages the pupils in role-playing scenarios where gratitude is shown. Example:
Teacher: "Get me a chair."
Lola: "Here is the chair, ma."
Teacher: "Thank you, Lola."
Lola: "You are welcome, ma."

Evaluation: Evaluate pupils based on their participation in the role play and the proper use of gratitude expressions.

Week 7 & 8

Topic: Sweeping and Packing

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to tidy the work ground by sweeping and packing the litter after work.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Broom and parker

Activities: The teacher sweeps and packs litter while the pupils observe. Pupils will then participate in the activity, practicing the steps to tidy up after their work.

Evaluation: Practical evaluation of how pupils carry out sweeping and packing tasks.

Week 9 & 10

Topic: Folding Materials

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to fold their clothes, hand towels, napkins, and other pieces of cloth.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Various clothes such as hand towels, napkins, and other pieces of fabric

Activities: The teacher demonstrates how to fold various types of clothes. Pupils will then practice folding their class hand towel and toy dresses.

Evaluation: Evaluate pupils on their ability to fold materials neatly.

Week 11

Topic: Revision and Examination

At the end of the term, pupils will review all they have learned in the NURSERY PRACTICAL LIFE EXERCISES course and participate in the end-of-term examination.

TERM TWO

Week 1 & 2

Topic: Set Grand Rules, Opening of Books, and the Use of Sharpener

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to open their books without destroying their spines and sharpen their pencils without cutting their fingers or wasting the pencil.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Books, pencils, sharpeners

Evaluation: Practical evaluation based on the pupils’ ability to open books properly and sharpen pencils safely.

Week 3 & 4

Topic: Washing of Face and Hands

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to wash their face when they wake up and wash their hands after using the restroom.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Wash hand basins, bowls, water, detergent, bar soap

Evaluation: Practical evaluation of pupils’ ability to wash their face and hands properly.

Week 5 & 6

Topic: Washing of Clothes and Using Cloth Pegs (Clips)

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to wash their socks, face towels, and pants, as well as hang clothes and peg them properly.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Socks, face towels, napkins, detergent, water, basins, and bowls

Evaluation: Practical evaluation based on pupils’ ability to wash and peg clothes correctly.

Week 7 & 8

Topic: Mopping

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to mop up water spills in the class.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Mop stick, bucket with water, and detergent

Evaluation: Practical evaluation of pupils’ ability to mop spills correctly.

Week 9 & 10

Topic: Greetings

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to greet appropriately in both English and their native language.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Charts

Evaluation: Practical evaluation based on pupils’ ability to greet in different situations.

Topic: Revision and Examination

TERM THREE

Week 1 & 2

Topic: Set Grand Rules and Allocation of Responsibilities

Objectives: To create a sense of orderliness in the children, assigning responsibilities like class captain, pencil captain, and food captain.

Lesson: 2 Lessons

Materials: Class settings

Evaluation: Practical evaluation based on the pupils’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities in the classroom.

Week 3 & 4

Topic: Giving Way on the Stairs and Entrance Doors

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to give way to one another at the door and entrance.

Materials: The school doors and entrance

Evaluation: Practical evaluation of pupils’ ability to give way and practice courteous behavior on the stairs and doorways.

Week 5 & 6

Topic: Welcoming Visitors to the School Compound

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to welcome visitors appropriately according to their age and class level, projecting the image of the school.

Materials: Charts

Evaluation: Practical evaluation based on pupils’ ability to properly welcome visitors to the school.

Week 7 & 8

Topic: Interrupting People During Talks

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should understand when it is appropriate to speak and when it is necessary to remain quiet while others are talking.

Evaluation: Practical evaluation of pupils’ ability to understand the importance of not interrupting others during discussions.

Week 9 & 10

Topic: Behavior on Outings

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should understand the need to maintain decorum on outings.

Evaluation: Evaluate pupils' behavior during an outing or excursion.
